As well as having your printer in good working order and running high quality ink, it is important to ensure that the workings between your RIP and printer are in tune with respect to colour. This is where profiling comes in. Profiling is often shrouded in mystery, but it really shouldn't be. Basically the colour accuracy of most installations is fine from the outset with the profiles "out of the box". That said, there is sometimes an advantage to be found by trying other "canned" profiles - i.e. ready made profiles that match your printer, ink, and media and which can be applied with little or no cost. Where the highest accuracy is needed, custom profiling will result in the closest colour match. InkGuard can offer advice on the subject of colour management, and maintains a library of canned profiles.
